Dermal Fillers at The London Face and Skin Clinic
Dermal fillers are used as an effective treatment modality to rejuvenate aged and lived in skin. As one’s skin ages, it loses the collagen that helps shape and support it.
Sun exposure, smoking, air pollution and even stress can all age one’s appearance. The face can also begin to lose volume giving sunken cheeks and a ‘dragged down’ appearance.
Other areas that noticeably age are the hands, neck, décolletage and lips.
Anti-aging dermal fillers are the non-surgical method which is effective in reducing deep lines and wrinkles, fill the hollows, enhance sunken cheeks and smooth the contours of your face.
What are Dermal Fillers?
The dermal fillers that are used here are non-permanent and consist of Hyaluronic Acid, a natural product found in the body that diminishes as one ages.
When used in a subtle fashion, the fillers are used to imitate the worn collagen and plump up what has been lost.
This improvement in overall skin surface quality acts to re-elasticate the contours of the face, for a non-surgical ‘lift’ that is highly effective, but nonetheless subtle and natural.
They work by attracting water from the surrounding tissues and act as a sponge in your skin, giving good tone and lifting folds.

Frequently asked questions on dermal fillers
Is it safe and am I in safe hands?
The great news with the dermal fillers used here is that their safety and efficacy is clinically proven and this is what sets them apart from other injectable treatments.
We believe that only medically and dentally trained clinicians should perform injectable treatments, the result of one’s treatment is only as good as the practitioner.
Dr Richard Etok has 15 years experience as a dentist and 13 years experience in aesthetic medicine, and has carried out thousands of procedures.
How many treatment sessions will I require?
The straightforward procedures take around typically 30-45 minutes.
For complex cases we construct a detailed treatment plan at the consultation stage individually tailored to you.
Am I a suitable client for injections?
Dermal fillers can be used on a wide variety of clients especially as it does not require prior allergy testing. For those that are pregnant or breast feeding we strongly advise against having treatment.
We carry out a detailed medical history prior to any treatment commencing.
Which regions can be enhanced?
Derma fillers for cheeks
Loss of volume during the aging process often results in hollows in the cheeks caused by fat loss under the skin. Cheek volumisation using facial fillers can restore the cheeks’ fullness for a more youthful appearance.
Derma fillers for crow’s feet
Crow’s feet, or periorbital rhytides, are the wrinkles that can form at the corner of the eyes over time as a result of aging, sun exposure, facial expressions, & smoking.
Derma fillers for décolletage
The skin loses its elasticity and firmness over time. Sun damage in particular can contribute to this aged look on the chest area, and the thinning of the skin can amplify the neck bands, adding years to your appearance.
Derma fillers for glabella lines
Glabella lines, sometimes called frown lines, are wrinkles between the brows caused by the muscles contracting. After years of crinkling and wrinkling, those frown lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced, leading to the term RBF.
They appear as 1s, 11s or 111s.
Derma fillers for lips
Lip contouring is a lip enhancement technique using injectable fillers to create an improved vermilion border to better define the lip line and produce plumper, more youthful looking lips. Thinning lips are a common reality of the aging process. Lip enhancement using facial fillers results in fuller, plumper lips and a more aesthetically pleasing, youthful appearance.
Derma fillers for marionette lines
Marionette lines, or mouth lines, are vertical wrinkles that form below the corners of the mouth, giving a sad or angry look to the face.
Derma fillers for nasolabial fold
Nasolabial folds, or smile lines, are the lines that run vertically from the sides of the nose to the corners of the upper lip. Most of us notice these when smiling, laughing or talking, but over time they can develop into static lines.
Derma fillers for smoker’s lines
Smoker’s lines, or vertical lines, are lip wrinkles, vertical wrinkles that form above the upper lip as a result of heredity, sun damage, and smoking.
Derma fillers for tear trough and dark circles around the eyes
Depending on the cause and each individual’s anatomy, dark circles (indentations) and/or bags can appear.
These can be caused by multiple factors. In most individuals, the skin directly under the eyes is so thin that the muscle and blood vessels can be seen more clearly. This is why almost all of us have some degree of darkness under the eyes.
As we age, the skin grows even thinner, and we lose the natural insulating layer of fat beneath our skin.
This causes underlying structures, like fat, to become more pronounced.
What looks like puffiness that has appeared beneath the eyes is actually the fat that has always been there, now more visible due to thinning and hollowing in the area.
What to expect during treatment
Makeup: Dr Etok will clean the injection site before your treatment. Bring your cosmetics with you (such as cover-up) if you wish to camouflage any discoloration after your procedure.
Discomfort: An initial “pinch” is usually felt from the needle, which feels similar to a toothpick on the skin.
However, most individuals experience very little discomfort during their procedure since dermal fillers contain a numbing anaesthetic that takes effect immediately upon injection or we use a topical anaesthetic.
Discoloration: Immediately after treatment, you may notice small injection marks or redness, which typically lasts a few hours.
What to expect after treatment
Pain: Most people are quite comfortable after their procedure, and discomfort (if any) is usually very mild. A cool compress may be used for additional comfort.
Swelling: Swelling around the injection site may occur immediately or up to 24-hours later. Sleeping with your head elevated can help minimize swelling and reduce facial puffiness. Apply cold tea bags on the eye area for 20 minutes to help reduce swelling.
Bruising: Bruising may include a black eye and can occur immediately after your injection, or up to 4 days later.
Exercise: Patients are allowed to participate in light activities but should avoid strenuous exercise during the first 24 hours following treatment. Activities that raise the heart rate may increase your chances of bruising.
Follow-Up Care: After your initial treatment, your 2-week follow-up appointment is very important. During your follow-up appointment, we will evaluate your results and may choose to further mould, or add additional filler for a more polished effect.
Fillers typically do not migrate from one location to another, however, if there is fullness in a concentrated area, gentle pressure will redistribute the filler evenly.
Maintenance Treatments: Dr Etok’s treatment plans include periodic touch-ups every 6 to 9 months to ensure you obtain results that will last. We call this comprehensive step-by-step approach to rejuvenation, Elysian360, keeping you looking refreshed and well maintained.
How long will the enhancement last for?
Typically, procedures will last from 6 to 18 months.
Will my family and friends notice I've had any procedures done?
We believe in being discrete and creating natural subtly changes. In the vast majority of cases, family and friends do not notice one has had cosmetic treatment done.
People will recognise something has changed, commenting on how refreshed you look and how good your skin is looking, than for them to be precise on exact what kind of treatment one has had.
