Botulinum toxin injection for treatment of facial wrinkles is the most frequently performed cosmetic procedure in the UK and USA, and it is one of the most common entry procedures for clinicians seeking to incorporate aesthetic treatments into their practice.
The prescription only drug, is used for treatment of frown lines and crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead lines, offers predictable results, has few adverse effects, and is associated with high patient satisfaction.
Laughing, smiling, frowning and lifestyle factors all contribute to the development of facial lines and wrinkles.
What is Botox®?
Botox® is the commonly used name of botulinum toxin, there are other botulinum toxins available under different brand names. Here at TLFSC we use Botox® and Dysport®.
The way they both work is surprisingly simple. It is made with a purified protein that, when injected into a targeted facial muscle, blocks the nerve impulses to that muscle.
As a result, the muscle relaxes and the skin lies smooth, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Botox® and Dysport® are suitable for both men and women.
In fact, in the last 10 years there has been a significant rise in the number of men having these treatments.
Frequently asked questions on Botox®
Is it safe and am I in safe hands?
Botulinum toxin has been used for more than 20 years to treat a variety of conditions including blepharospasm, strabismus, cervical dystonia, migraines, hyperhidrosis, and muscle spasticity.
The wrinkle injections used here have been clinically proven and this is what sets them apart from other injectable treatments.
Both injectables used here have FDA approval. We believe that only medically and dentally trained clinicians should perform injectable treatments.
The result of one’s treatment is only as good as the practitioner. Dr Richard Etok has 15 years’ experience as a dentist and 13 years’ experience in aesthetic medicine and non-surgical rejuvenation techniques, and has carried out thousands of procedures.
How many treatment sessions will I require?
Results with wrinkle injections are temporary, treatment is on going.
Patients usually have injectable treatment every 3-4 months, however frequent use does have an additive effect.
Clients are often reviewed two weeks post treatment.
Am I a suitable client for injections?
Clients with dynamic wrinkles demonstrate the most dramatic improvements from botulinum toxin injection and are ideal candidates for treatment.
Patients with static wrinkles that are visible at rest are also candidates, but results are slower and patients may require two or three consecutive botulinum toxin treatments for significant improvements.
Deep static lines may not fully respond to botulinum toxin injection alone and may require combination treatment with dermal fillers or other cosmetic procedures to achieve optimal results.
Contraindications to botulinum toxin injection include neuromuscular disorders allergy to constituents of botulinum toxin product, unrealistic expectations, and body dysmorphic disorder.
We do not treat those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
